Extension and outreach activities

  • Popularization of crop based and livestock varieties technologies.
  • Conduct of exhibitions/ melas/ meetings and visits
  • Kissan Melas, field days and awareness programmes are being regularly conducted in all the districts for dissemination and awareness of new technologies.
  • Technological Exhibition-cum-Seed Sale Mela are regularly held in the month of Marchevery year at Shalimar Campus of the University where more than 02 lac farmers, extension workers, unemployed youth, farm women social worker, NGOs, students etc. Participate for purchase of seed, planting material and products and for learning innovative technologies.
  • Soil Health Day, Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojna and PPV & FRA awareness programmes are celebrated regularly and more than 10,000 Soil Health Cards were issued to the farmers through various KVK’s at district level.
  • Farmers visits to SKUAST-Kashmir were arranged in association with state departments under ATMA and NABARD from all the districts to receive technical knowhow from various units of the University.

Conduct of frontline demonstrations and OFT’s

  • Front line demonstrations and on-farm-trials (OFTs) at different locations on new crop varieties and technologies for increasing productivity and returns.
  • Trainings are provided to extension personnel’s of line departments, unemployed youth and farmers on various emerging aspects of agriculture and allied sectors on upgradation of knowledge on innovative technologies, skill development etc.
  • Group Dynamics
  • Established farmers Clubs, Self Help Groups (SHGs) for employment and women empowerment in agri. and allied
  • Farmer’s portal service:
  • KVKs have developed SMS portals/ farmer’s portals and providing advisory to thousands of farmers in a month, under National initiative on climate resilient agriculture (NICRA)
  • Providing SMS alerts and attend to Kissan calls
  • Delivered T.V and radio talks on agriculture and allied fields
  • Mobile diagnostic and exhibition services:
  • Mobile diagnostic services are being offered to the farmers at their door steps with the help of fully equipped Mobile Diagnostic Van where farm problems were addressed and on the spot remedial measure suggested.
  • More than 200 farmer’s Plant Clinical Camps/Advisory Services conducted with regard to the problems related to fruits, vegetables, field crops, flowers and livestock. Major problems addressed included: bark splitting, impaired foliage, root-rot, collar-rot, scab, Alternaria, stem-borer, necrotic and leaf blotch
  • Farmer / Village Adoption
  • Fifty three villages have been identified and adopted by KVKs and research stations for popularization of new technologies, varieties, products and prototypes.
  • Special BHT and Landscape Gardening programmes launched for unemployed youth and extension functionaries
  • One year Basic Horticulture Training Programme and LSG certificate course launched and conducted at four and two centres respectively and provided certificates.
  • National initiative on climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA):
  • KVK Pulwama and KVK Bandipora were identified by ICAR for carrying out climate resilient activities.
  • Registration of indigenous varieties
  • More than 300 indigenous varieties of cereals, pulses, vegetables have been submitted to PPV&FR Authority New Delhi for Registration.
  • ATIC Activities
  • Technology Information is being provided to farmers individually by Subject Matter Specialists.
  • Sale of technologies and products viz. Seeds, Seedlings, Planting material, Milk, Honey, saffron.
  • Sale of Books /Package of Practices and extension literature.
  • Soil, water and leaf testing done for farmers on nominal costs.
  • Diagnostic Services were also provided through ATIC.
  • Thirty Two Capacity building programmes and trainings are conducted under SAMETI for field functionaries of Kashmir and Ladakh region.
