Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry a constituent unit of SKUAST- Kashmir came into existence in 1984 with the objective of addressing the much needed requirement of producing trained graduates and post graduates in the field of veterinary and animal husbandry. The teaching, Research and extension in Veterinary and Animal Sciences thus evolved as the three strong pillars of the institution, the fourth being represented by the constant resolve of the faculty to excel despite all odds.I’m honored to be a part of this system of rich traditions of uncompromised and dedicated efforts being religiously followed here with a view to cultivating some of the finest veterinary professionals and research minds. At FVSc & AH we prepare and fashion our students to become leaders with the moral integrity, intellectual intensity and an innate urge necessary to meet the challenges at a time of critical transition in the society. Our approved academic programs include Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc & AH) at undergraduate level, Masters of Veterinary Sciences (MVSc) at the post-graduate level and we have Doctoral level programs (PhD) across the various disciplines.We have a reputation of being a Centre of Research based learning where students and teachers put their heads together to answer some of the most pressing and challenging questions faced in the field today, in order to contribute to the development of the society. We have proved our mettle at national as well as international levels at several fora via demonstrating our competence and capability to do what most of others cannot. The cloning of Pashmina goat and vaccine development against Foot rot disease in sheep are some of the glowing examples of our achievements. In addition to to this our faculty has maintained its profile at around first two positions at all India level insofar as the bagging of fellowships is concerned. Our pass outs have been placed conveniently in various organisations that include Development Departments, Civil Services, Banks, Research Institutions, Pharma Industry, Livestock food industry and NGO,s etc. Their disciplined approach and consistently remarkable contribution has oftentimes helped our other pass outs being favourites among various employers.Located in the hill skirts of beautiful mountains of Shuhama,Alusteng, Ganderbal, our campus reflects a picturesque landscape that mesmerizes the beholders. This serine atmosphere together with the inbuilt tranquility of the site makes FVSC & AH an ideal place for studying and research.

The teachers are dedicated to bringing real life experiences into the classroom, Labs and clinical settings to enhance the learning outcomes of the students.Our admission process is competitive, wherein we only accept highly meritorious students for admission in B.V.Sc.& AH, MVSc & PhD courses. The candidates for admission are selected solely on the basis of merit through University Entrance Test.
Examination and Evaluation Process B.V.Sc & A.H. degree programme external assessment system on 50:50 basis as per the norms of the Veterinary Council of India has been adopted for students from the batch admitted from Academic Session 2003. But from the academic year 2016-17, the VCI regulations 2016 have been adopted. The evaluation of courses is being carried out on 10-point scale of grading at both undergraduate levels. The scoring of minimum OGPA of 6.000/10.000 at the undergraduate level is mandatory for successful completion of degree programme. Undergraduate Degree Programme From the academic year 2016-17, the VCI regulations 2016 have been adopted and followed strictly in the faculty. As per these regulations, examination shall be to assess whether the student has been able to achieve a level of competence and for academic assessment, evaluation of practical aspects of the curriculum shall receive much greater emphasis leading to separate examinations and requiring the student to secure a minimum of 50% marks, in theory as well as in practical, in each such examination. The weightage of theory and practical shall be in the ratio of 60:40 respectively. The schedule of examination during Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry course consists of three internal assessments followed by the annual examinations. For a perticular course, the weightage for the Internal Assessments is 20 Marks as two best are considered out of the three assessments while as the weightage for the annual examination is 40 Marks. The Practical examination is being conducted by an Board of Examiners appointed by the Dean with members of the concerned Division along with one examiner nominated the Dean of the faculty. The weightage for the Practical examinations is 40 Marks. At the end of each academic year the instructors concerned convey these grades (in the prescribed proforma) through the Head of the Department to the Dean who in turn sends the same to the Registrar. Evaluation of Internees: The final assessment of each intern shall be based upon the evaluation of log book or project report, his or her performance reports from all the minimum prescribed training postings, entrepreneurial output, clinical case reports and their presentation, viva and comprehensive examination in core competence in veterinary skills through a written test by an Evaluation Committee comprising of the faculty representing the concerned departments appointed by the Dean for this purpose. The minimum pass marks in internship assessment shall be 50 out of 100. After successful completion of Internship, the Dean shall then issue the certificate of satisfactory completion of internship training as prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India

The students of the Faculty are participating in various extra- /Co-curricular activities within and outside the university with brilliant performance.The students are regularly participating in various NSS activities like plantation/ cleanliness drive and other environmental awareness programmes. Similar performance is shown by our students in debates etc.
Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Science & Technology –Kashmir possessing a very rich treasure of books and journals at its various libraries spread over Kashmir and Ladakh. The FVSc & A.H, Library was established in the year 1984 the present Library building has an area of 9000 Sq Ft with 6500 Sq Ft as stacking area. Faculty library FVSc & A. H, SKUAST-K supports teaching, Research and other related programmes of the institute. The library has a good collection of documents that comprises of books, journals thesis, video cassettes, and Compact discs in the field of Veterinary and related disciplines. Faculty Library consists of following sections: Acquisition section/ processing section: • Most of the books for Faculty Library are purchased through Central Library Shalimar. • Textbooks& Reference books section: Faculty Library has a good collection of text as well as reference books. Though the collection is not big having 8905 books. There are 6380 text books and 2525 reference books. This book collection is proving very useful to Faculty members, researchers, scholars and Students. Library is also having 272 theses with 65 PhD theses and 207 MVSc theses. Periodical section: • There are 7280 Journals volumes mostly foreign existing in the Library Reprographic section: • Library is also providing Xerox facility to its users. Teaching Hall: • There are two big halls in the Library for teaching purposes with the capacity of almost 120 students. Reading Hall: • Seating arrangements for 50 students is existing in the Library in one hall and different Library sections. Faculty Library tries its best to cope up with the demands of the patrons by adapting to new technologies in the field of Library and information management. The library has computerized data of its book collection and of the patrons that avail services of Library. Koha, which is open- source software, is deployed on the Libraries intra-Net. The book collection and patron data is available on Koha. RFID technology has also been implemented in the library. Faculty Library also house a browsing center where patrons can browse online resources using wired or wireless (Wi-Fi) Faculty Library has extended the services beyond the physical walls of a building, by including material accessible by electronic means & by developing a modernized e-Resource Library with a variety of e-Journals and e Databases which is centrally managed by central Library, SKUAST-K Shalimar. Remote Access to e Resources is also provided to Library users
Educational Institution all across the world are implementing different Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of different academic, administrative, research and extension related activities. Nowadays the process of learning has included learning using different means of Information & Communication Technology has become a new norm which has resulted in rapid increase in the investments made by different educational institutions in ICT and related services. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a very helpful tool for providing good governance to the Faculty and its associated Divisions which brings change in the working of an Educational Institution.The ICT Lab was established as a constituent unit of Dean’s office of Faculty, SKUAST-K in order to establish a platform where the students in general and faculty members in particular will leverage from the investments made in establishment of the unit. The main focus of ICT lab at Faculty is to help students in understanding a technology in order to ignite them to apply the ICT as a facilitator in their corresponding domains.
