Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) System installed and commissioned under NAHEP

RFID Systems was installed at two Faculty Libraries viz.

(1). Library of Faculty of Agriculture Wadura, Baramullah; and

(2). Library of Faculty of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry Shuhama, Ganderbal.

RFID Server Layer Software/ Integration Module/ Middleware

  • Integration of RFID Tags installed on books and patron smart cards after proper online validation of the book/patron record from the integrated LMS database  with retagging option for re-registration of books & patrons and enabling or disabling of tags/cards as and when required      
  • Send SMS & Email for circulations and registration transaction which can be selected for specific users     
  • Provision of slip printing containing the details of a transaction


Installation of KOHA

Library Management System (LMS) with Client Claimed Customization:

Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial Control, OPAC, Patron Detail, Patron Card. Barcode Label & Spine Label and other flexible report generation. Integration of Web OPAC with University Website.


                With the integration of RFID System in the two Libraries we shall be able to:

  • To keep a prompt record of library user foot-falls
    • by keeping un-intervening track of the movement of library users within the library premises and
    • by automatic counting of the number of visits they pay to the library
  • To avoid stealing of books/journals/theses, etc. by keeping automatic track of their movement
  • To integrate the bibliographical detail of books, journals, theses, etc. into the RFID Tags from the existing LMS without wasting any more time on the job
  • To issue RFID and Chip-based Smart Cards to registered library patrons
  • To ensure hazel free and fool-proof online/offline registration of library users
  • To ensure quick and prompt data restoration in case of any miss-hap encountered by the existing library management system (LMS)
  • To enable the library staff to know the sources and services that remain under high demand of users
  • To enable the library staff to carry out physical verification of books/journals/theses, etc. in an easy way and on fast track basis
  • To enable prompt shelf rectification of books/journals/theses and avoid any misplacements causing a lot of disappointment to the stakeholders
  • by enabling the users (scientists/students) to carry out the issue return of the books of their own under the self check-in and self check-out facility
  • by providing them the online/offline registration of library users
  • To enable the users to check their account and status without need for any library staff assistance
  • To avoid duplication of work in creation of the proprietary slips required to be pasted on each books/journals/theses, etc.
  • To avail meta-data harvesting facility in a better and robust way. 


Summing up the above mentioned benefits we can broadly say that implementation of the RFID shall help the Library System:

  • To facilitate service in anticipation to demand in real sense
  • To ensure optimum usage of information resources
  • To avoid sheer disappointment of library users and thus attract maximum users to the library
  • To safeguard the valuable assets of knowledge
  • To enable the library staff to consolidate the valid facts about returns on investment at their end
