Plant Biotechology

The Centre for Plant Biotechnology was established for undertaking Research & Teaching in the field of Plant Biotechnology in 2013 which progressed to Division of Plant Biotechnology in 2017 vide university order No. 592 (Est.) of 2017, dated: 14-07-2017. Presently the Division is imparting teaching and research at UG, PG and Ph.D level. It offers new ideas and techniques applicable to agriculture and also develops a better understanding of living systems of our environment. It can transform ideas into practical applications, viz., certain crops can be genetically altered to increase their tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress tolerance like drought, cold, diseases and pest infestations. It can help develop high yielding and more nutritious crop varieties and also reduce the need for fertilizer and other expensive agricultural chemicals.
