The Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir has a statutory role to play with regard to extension service, a vehicle which carries scientific agricultural technology interventions developed at the Research Stations to the farmer to enhance the net agricultural income of the farmers in a sustainable manner.

The major activities of Extension Directorate are dissemination of farmer related information, training of farmers and extension functionaries, educating the Farmers through demonstrations, Field visits, Fields days and Farm advisory service, workshops, press and electronic media etc., through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Extension Education Service units. The Directorate of Extension Education, a constituent unit of SKUAST –Kashmir Sringar came into existence in 1982 at Shalimar Sringar with the great vision of promoting advanced agricultural technologies for the benefits of the by farmers. Development of human resources through knowledge enrichment and wisdom, underpinning food safety, sustainability of rich resources of the State and income to all rural sections of the population in general and hilly farming community in particular are the main focus of the unit. The Directorate of Extension Education has a well developed Plant Disease Clinic located in Agriculture Technology information Centre (ATIC) where diseases/disorders of various crop plants are diagnosed and remedial measures are suggested to the farmers by a team of experts. The farmers can also get the seeds, planting material of new varieties/ cops beside pertinent literature etc. The Directorate of Extension Education also organizes training courses regarding Soil health, Agronomy, Horticulture, Vegetable, Plant Protection, Agricultural Engineering, Seed Production, Mushroom Cultivation, Bee Keeping, Home Science, Post-harvest management of various crops, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Sericulture.

ØTo Plan implement and execute various extension education programmes in temperate and cold arid agriculture, animal husbandry and allied in close association with the state line departments.
Ø To provide plateform for interface between farmers, researchers and extension functionaries to address the problems of agriculture and allied.
Ø To disseminate knowledge and proven farm technologies to the extension functionaries of the line departments and farmers.
